Camp Successes
Hello
there!! How are you? I was emailing Tabitha and I would love to say
that I'll join the meeting on Tuesday but I am so busy right now.
I joined the Cole
Harbour RCMP Stetsons
& Spurs last September which takes away one of my evenings. I'm still
fencing and that takes up Tuesdays, Thursdays and the weekends. Can you
please keep me posted on all upcoming events? Promoting 'CC 2008' is such
an important task and I'd like to help whenever it fits my schedule! Say,
are you going to have a pre-camp day like last year?
Jessica

It is a great opportunity! I am available to come to pre-camp day on July

Jessica Trites is enrolling at St. Mary's taking criminology. Then she wants to join the RCMP, in narcotics or organized crime unit. She want's to be on teh E.R.T team.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How are you lady!
I'm sitting here right now, feeling extremely lucky and happy. My CPAT's done,
my polygraph's done and now onto the board interview! Mike Sears mentioned he'd
give me a hand in practicing but I was wondering if you could too. I saw the
fire in Burnside yesterday, were you working? All I wanted to do was pull over
and help, haha I should probably have a bit more training first! Anyways, my
fire fighting school starts February 18 and runs until July 18th. I absolutely
want to help with Camp
Courage this year so
remember me when July comes! I keep surrounding myself with as much positivity
as I can. I got my letter from HRM saying I passed the CPAT and my polygraph
was next, so after my polygraph I took the letter and scratched some things
out. It now says "Congratulations on your successful completion of HRM's
firefighting recruitment, we wish to offer you a full time position."
Whenever I have doubts I pull that letter out of my bag and tell myself I've
already got it, I am a fire fighter. Just wanted to let you know what was
going on and fill you in!
Thank you thanks you thank you.

My interview was today and I think it went fairly well.
I'm sorry I haven't been in touch,.
How can I help with Camp
Courage?
and
can I use you as a reference?
Thanks!

Thanks
so much Andrea! If you could send me your contact information that would be
great. I have some time after school depending on the homework and workload of
the week. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
Whitney
just know how much you helped me get where I am! You helped keep me positive
and motivated!

Holland College is PEI.
Cheryl Campana - hosted a child through World Vision? Well I'm currently at St. FX University with plans to go onto Law school and be a human rights lawyer. I went to debate nationals a few years ago, and adopted a gorillia in Rwanda through the Diane Fossey foundation. Last year I initiated the CRAP (Clean Roads And Property) crew at my school which went out a few times a month to pick up garbage on school grounds. This year I participated in a winter survival weekend where I and 3 friends had to build a shelter and stay in it over night (that took place in January). We learned about how to build a proper shelter and other winter survival tools which was pretty neat. Umm...Last year I was president of my Junior Achievers group.

University with Criminology, as
well as applied for S.I.A.S.T Paramedicine program in Regina Saskatchewan.

Jocelyn Woynar -in October I started my
Co-op program through Auburn
with
the Cole Harbour RCMP, my term was for 100 hrs and was to be completed by
January of 2006. However, I was invited to stay if I wanted to and go on my
own time once a week, I loved it so I stayed until June. In July I started
getting paid to work at the RCMP detachment and was having a lot of doors
and opportunities opened for me. I am still working for the RCMP and getting
paid. Currently I am working out of the Sackville detachment doing TRU
(Telephone Response Unit) every Friday (my day off from school). I worked
TRU full-time for 3 weeks during the Christmas holiday.
In addition to working once a week in Lr. Sackville, I also volunteer still
at the Cole Harbour detachment doing Community Policing... which means I
call all the seniors (around 60 or so) and see how they are doing and talk
to them for a little bit, I am starting presentations with the Senior Safety
Program next month and attending meetings. I set my own hours for this and
generally go in on Thursday mornings from 10am-12:30.
I have met so many great people while doing this and have gone on
ride-alongs, to court, I am going to major crime soon, I've been to all the
911 locations and toured many buildings and have been able to get security
cleared to have access to all kinds of things. (Normally in CH I run the
front desk and look after the phones, I do accident reports, crc, pardon
applications, tickets, anything thats thrown at me). I've been able to take
a quick school course and really start to set myself up. I've made so many
awesome contacts and done a lot of things that will make getting into the
RCMP a lot easier. I am writing my RCMP
exam this August and am hoping this time next year to be in Depot.
I am still trying to get in and I have my
final interview on May 28! I just got the call a few hours ago. It's been a
long road, I had to do my PARE twice and write the exam twice but I'm finally
getting somewhere.

So
a little update on me. I am going to St. FX in the fall to take nursing, and im
hoping that someday i will work either on the air ambulance or at a hospital as
a baby nurse. My dream is still to be a paramedic and i hope that someday maybe
i will be but because i can't get my liscene I can't be a paramedic right now.
That's about it, only a month and a half untill i graduate:) YAY
Hope you have a great day

Hey
andrea!
I had an interview for the co-op program next year. I applied for firefighting.
They guy that interviewed me said I was exactly what he is looking for for
firefighting. But he said its hard to find places that will take girls. I was
wondering if maybe you could help me by possibly talking to the chief of
whoever you have to at your station. I didn't think that would be a big problem
so I was kind of shocked. Oh and I didn't get the counsellor in training for
camp. I found in the interview they asked more questions about faith in the
church and so forth and I wasnt very comfortable answering that. I tried
though, and they also said they wanted to give new people the opportunity to
come to the camp and stuff and I've been going there since I was very young. It
was upsetting at first but I can still go up whenever I want and spend a night
or two so that will be nice. Anyways, I hope you are having a good day!
Thank you!
Brittany
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also I am still
volunteering with St. John's
Ambulance and I am teaching for them as well. I work in pharmacy as a Pharmacy
tech and Although I love my job I am going to apply for paramedicine and the rN
nursing program again next year.
Anyways I have to go to work now it's great hearing from you, take
care,
Emily a.k.a. Emma
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Andrea,
It's been so long since I've talked to you! It's sure nice to hear from you
again :)
Does this mean that I will be "working" the fair?
In return to your previous email (I've been so busy since you've sent it that I
haven't had time to reply), I am still very much interested in policing or fire
fighting. Those jobs are on pause however, while I finish my degree in an
advanced major (maybe even masters) in sociology and minor in psychology at the
Mount. I have just finished my first year and am getting ready for my second
year. Boy has the time flew by! I'm hoping to get better grades this year than
last year. On the side of school I have been rowing competitively for Mic Mac
Rowing Club. I just got my new single rowing boat so that was pretty exciting.
This summer is looking good for training and next summer is Canada Games, which
I hope to be on the team. And on the side of that, I am working at the Dartmouth
Sportsplex as a lifeguard, Head Guard and Supervisor (Which isn't always
easy!). I am particularly excited for the summer due to my new job, which will
be working on the Police Boat on Lake
Banook. I'm getting my
scuba diving course on the 7th and 8th of June.
How have you been? What have you been up to? How has the camps been going?
Jenn
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was at St. FX taking Human Kinetics, but
I'm still applying to MSOP, and if I don't get in, then I'll go back to finish
up my HK degree at X. I've a lot on my mind about school, so I might not even
to back to X... I might go do Dal Nursing for a while.. who knows. I might even
go for Fire school. And I was actually looking on the government job bank
website, and I noticed there are a few jobs with Brinks as an armoured truck
guard, and I have all of the qualifications except a PAL.. which has to do with
firearms, so I think that'd be fun to do as a job for a while.
Actually -- if you don't mind, could you ask Amy about getting a PAL license?
I'm not even sure where to begin to look it up on the internet..

Courage. I have been in the Blockhouse and District Fire Department for almost
5 years now, and loving every minute of it. I am now the Junoir firefighter

I can drive the fire trucks now and calculate friction loss for all differnt
lengths and widths of lines :)I love school so much, we just got our results
from NFPA pumper today and i got the highest mark in my class out of everyone!
The last few weeks we have been working on rescue tech, liek vechile
extraction, high angle, and just started confined space today and there all so
enjoyable i love it!
Also saturday which jsut passed eight of us got to go in the flashover
simulator and it was such a cool experince ill never forget it! Fire was
rolling over us on the ceiling and over the walls and ghosting in the smoke and
it was soo amazing! i love being in fire soo much its so exciting!
Also since ive been here ive been volenterring and jsut stopping by every
wednesday night for training and meetings at a town very close to here called
kippens. Its very small and doesnt get many calls but its been great with
helping me experince being part of a station a bit just doing checks of the

Hey
Andrea,
I just thought that I would update you on what
I've up to lately. I have now been in the Canadian Forces Army Reserves for 2
1/2 months. It's not firefighting, police, or paramedicine, but it is
definitely a male dominated field. I am the only female in my trade in my unit.
I would like to thank you for Camp Courage
because I feel like it really helped prepare me for this weekend. We had to get
into CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear warfare) equiptment,
go into the gas hut, and be gased. We were in there without our gas masks for a
bit and it stung everywhere. The suits were very similar to the Hazmat suits. A
lot of people were having trouble breathing through their gas masks, but after
being put in a Hazmat suit with an air tank, and having an air tank and
going through the confined spaces trailer, I found it very easy.
It is very physically and emotionally demanding.
Sometimes I feel like I can't do it anymore and I just want to give up, but
then I remember to never use the word can't and to keep pushing myself. I have
one more weekend left on BMQ (Basic Military Qualifications) before I graduate
from that course. I would love to help out with the camp this year,
but I am going away all summer for training, from July 2nd to
September 3rd.
I hope that everything is going
good with you and that the camp is as amazing as it was last year. Thank
you so much again and here are some picture from the military. Hope you enjoy
:)

Hi
Andrea,
It's Sera LaPointe from Ontario, I was in the 2008 class. I just wanted
to let you know that I was in my first combat challenge last weekend for camp
BUCKO. It was a charity event. My team took home a silver medal with a time of
2:52 we lost gold by only 3 seconds. One of the girls on my team also raised
the most money and my school was the top fundraising school. I also came in 5th
place for individual. Just telling you how I am doing. Sera LaPointe
I’m
excited im going to be volenteering at station 16 in Eastern Passage :)
